Armed Forces Day on the third Saturday in May pays tribute to the military personnel serving in the United States Armed Forces. The celebration takes place each year during Armed Forces Week, and in 2021, falls on May 15th.

The United States Military is composed of six branches, including the Army, Airforce, Space Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. As of 2019, more than 1.3 million active-duty service members are stationed in the United States and around the world. An additional 800,000 reservists stand ready in the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. The holiday unites the country behind the men and women who currently serve in the United States military.

Let us join together in remember their service and sacrifice, and the sacrifices of their loved ones.

Good and gracious God, we commend to your merciful care and keeping, all the men and women in our Armed Forces, at home and around the world. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils that beset them; and help them to know that nothing can separate them from your love. We also lift up to you, the family, friends and loved ones of those in the Armed Forces, who make sacrifices of their own for the sake of others. Be with them and grant them peace as they wait and hope for the safe return of those they love. All this we pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
