Dear Siblings in Christ,
Time flies, and Advent is once again around the corner. This year, instead of meeting in the sanctuary on Wednesday nights for a Service of the Word, we’ll be gathering via Zoom* for a four-week book study, entitled Light of the World. We’ll use resources from internationally renowned scholar and teacher, Amy-Jill Levine, a Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies, and the Mary Jane Werthan Professor of Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School and College of Arts and Sciences. She is also the co-editor of The Jewish Annotated New Testament, and has offered more than 500 programs for churches, clergy groups and seminaries.
We will meet on Wednesdays, as usual, from 6:30 – 8 pm. There is a book you will need to purchase (130 pages, $12.99 on the Cokesbury website. If you can find it cheaper, go for it!). If that amount is difficult for you, please let us know and Grace can help you cover that cost. The Wednesday dates we’ll meet are December 2nd, 9th and 16th, and we’ll discuss the date for the final class (the last Wednesday in Advent is December 23rd, so we may move it up to earlier in that week).
If you have any questions, or if you are interested in participating, please let Pastor Jenn (pastorjenn [at] rocketmail.com) or Education Comm. Chair Linda Wolters (landowaltzes [at] gmail.com) know by Wednesday, November 18th . This is so we have time to order enough books. If you’d like to see a sample of the program, you can go online to https://www.cokesbury.com/Light-of-the-World-2.
Looking forward to sharing these conversations with you!
* if you are unfamiliar with Zoom, please let us know. We are happy to help you get set up. All you need is an internet connection and a device (computer, tablet, iPad, mobile phone, etc.)
